700 ARRESTED ON BROOKLYN BRIDGE
AFTER PROTEST IN NEW YORK CITY
NEW YORK (AP) - The Brooklyn Bridge has been shut down in one direction after protesters camped out near Wall Street spilled onto the roadway. Police have made lot of arrests and were continuing to stop people illegally blocking the roadway Saturday evening. About 700 protesters were arrested after a horde of anti-Wall Street demonstrators swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge yesterday, halting traffic for more than three hours and clashing with cops on the famed span.  Up to 100 cars were left stranded as the loud, angry crowd covered the crossing from end to end in an inflamed day of demonstrations against high unemployment, bank bailouts and financial pain for the masses.  Demonstrators are railing against corporate greed, global warming and social inequality, among other grievances.

The group has been camped near the Financial District for two weeks and clashed with police on earlier occasions.  A Friday march to police headquarters was peaceful.  Earlier Saturday, two other marches went over the bridge without problems. One was from Brooklyn to Manhattan by a group opposed to genetically modified food. Another in the opposite direction marched against poverty.  The Occupy Wall Street movement, whose members have vowed to stay through the winter, are protesting issues including the 2008 bank bailouts, foreclosures and high unemployment.  Organizers of the amorphous demonstrators group declared: “Show me what democracy looks like. This is what democracy looks like!”  “No true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power,” the group declared.


More than 700 protesters from the Occupy Wall Street movement demonstrating against corporate greed, global warming, social inequality, the 2008 bank bailouts, foreclosures and high unemployment, among other grievances, were arrested Saturday after they swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge and shut down a lane of traffic for several hours in a tense confrontation with police.  “This is what democracy looks like!,” they have yelled many times a day.  They fight ardently for temporary satisfaction, and it always ends in frustration.


WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
So people are fighting over property, people are fighting over land, over food, people are fighting over the limited resources of our planet. Even a little house, children are fighting over who’s toy’s, over who’s bedroom and when they grow a little older, they become more intelligent, they have higher education, they start fighting over money and prestige, people kill each other fighting over a woman. Governments build massive armies fighting over land. So much fighting, so much competition in the business world, so much competition amongst politicians, so many people want the same post, great conflict.  Why? We are looking for a spiritual experience, which is eternal and full of unending pleasures, we are looking for love in the material plane through a material vehicle.
